Left the Gaylord Opryland at about 10.00 am. We had a recommendation from one of the waiters to visit Leiper Fork which is a folk village just outside of Franklin. So off we set for Franklin, as the satnav didn't recognise Leiper Fork.
It took about half an hour to drive to Franklin, but there were no signs to Leiper Fork, so we decided to look around Franklin and forget Leiper. It is a very nice town and it had a Starbucks which definitely made my day. Just as a matter of interest, Nashville is in the middle of the Bible Belt, so one sees plenty of churches.
From there it was back on the road towards Memphis which took about two hours. We are staying at a Holiday Inn Select in the middle of town, which is very handy for everything.
After booking in we went out for a look around and ended up on Beale Street, which is the main street for the popular bars and grills. We also took a local tram ride from the beginning of the line until the end, and back again - all for 25 cents. We decided to eat before going back to the hotel and ate in the Capriccio restaurant, which is part of the Peabody Hotel, which is an enormous building across the road from our hotel. The food was excellent and we both enjoyed it as we had not really eaten anything the whole day. I found Jerry Lee Lewis's hand prints in concrete on Beale Street, but haven't found Elvis yet!!
