Left the hotel at about 10 - after having breakfast in the room. After some small adjustments to our route, we eventually managed to get back on the I-40 West. After a while we turned on to Route 65 North, which took us towards Eureka Springs.
It was a really lovely journey - especially as it wasn't on an interstate road and we seemed to be driving through forests practically all the way and slowly climbing. We stopped for lunch at a "Mom and Pop" Diner called Fergussen which is about 20 miles before you reach Harrison. We had a light lunch and lots to drink (like water and soft drinks) and then back on the road again.
The satnav led us to our accommodation in a very round-about way. I think she was lost herself. We first of all drove down a very steep, curving, unsurfaced road until we came to a road that had been surfaced. She then told us to carry on straight up a road which was one way - the wrong way. We managed to get out of that and she was "recalculating" like mad. Eventually, we found the right way - purely by chance it seemed - and we got to The Heart of the Hills Inns and Cottages.
We are in one of the cottages which has a bed upstairs and a bed downstairs. We also have our own kitchen and bathroom and back veranda.
As we got here at about 4.00 pm and the shops closed at 6.00 we decided to walk down into the town. The hill we walked down (and back up again after dinner) was really really steep, so we both reckoned we had done our exercise for the day. After looking in the shops, we decided to do a trolley tour of the area and then eat dinner before climbing the hill. To waste time we did the trolley tour twice, for the same money, and then went and had a drink at a very nice bar, before dinner . It's really a lovely area, surrounded by forests. Some of the hotels offer spas as there are fresh springs around the area. During the civil war, some injured soldiers were sent here to recuperate and they did well.
We ate at an Italian restaurant called De Vito's and the food was very good. Sorry can't send any photos at this time, the internet reception is not very good. Will try and do so at our next "pit stop" in Oklahoma City.
