After breakfast we left Memphis and crossed the Mississippi into Arkansas. The road from Memphis to Little Rock is pretty nondescript but we did see a signpost for a forest area with restaurants, but when we drove through, there was nothing open.
Back on the road again and we hit a traffic hold up. Evidently they are re-surfacing I-40 West, which happens to be the road we are on and it was stop and start for about half an hour. No one got excited and eventually the traffic moved on.
Expected to arrive in Little Rock about 2.00 pm, but eventually arrived at about 3.00. We are in a magnificent hotel (Capital Hotel), which is an historical building. We came up to our room in an enormous-sized lift which was allegedly built to accommodate General Grant and his horse, but this has not been verified. The room is very spacious and, as expected, with all the mod-cons.
After a short rest in our room, we decided to wander out to see the sights of Little Rock so we walked down to the River Market area which is crowded with stalls selling arts and crafts. It's possible to walk down to the Arkansas River front.

We then took a trolley bus tour across the bridge to North Little Rock which is a different town to Little Rock. They are divided by the Arkansas River and evidently there was a falling out between the two sometime in the past and they made two towns. Bill Clinton's Presidential Park and Centre is in North Little Rock, as is the main baseball stadium.

Jewish Life in Little Rock |
Jewish life in Little Rock was started by a German Jew. Over time there were communities in various parts of Arkansas.
Had dinner at a great restaurant called Sonny Williams. Ate swordfish steak, which was enormous, with great sides. Even managed to get mint tea afterwards. Back to hotel and tomorrow off to Eureka Springs.
